Final meeting: Monday 17th June 1867
The East Riding village of South Cave, some 14 miles from Hull, along with its near neighbour North Cave, held race meetings in the 19th century. The first meeting entitled South Cave Races took place on fields belonging to Mr Fisher on the east of the Borough Road, just a quarter of a mile from the centre of the village, on Tuesday 27th May 1864. The meeting opened with the Hunters’ Stakes over 3 miles and saw Princess beat Maria. The feature race was the Scramble Stakes in which Maria gained her revenge on Princess. The final card, staged as a joint North and South Cave meeting, took place on the North Cave racecourse on Monday 17th June 1867. |
